Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani received the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Iraq Mohamed al-Hassan in the holy city of Najaf on Monday.
According to the senior cleric’s office, Ayatollah Sistani in this meeting welcomed al-Hassan and wished him success in fulfilling his duties.
He referred to the challenges facing the Iraqi people and said the people of the Arab country should learn lessons from past experiences and strive to achieve a better future for the country in which everyone benefits from stability, security, welfare and progress.
He stressed that this would not be possible without devising practical plans for the management of the country with transparency and efficiency.

He further underlined the need for preventing any foreign intervention in different affairs of the country.
Pointing to the regional developments, Ayatollah Sistani deplored the tragic situations in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and said the international community must strive to stop the Israeli regime’s atrocities.
